Welcome to the Allgäu, the land of lakes, castles, palaces and mountains
For a short trip to Neuschwanstein castle, the Hotel Das Rübezahl in Schwangau is the perfect place to be. And with its mountain scenery and castles, the Allgäu is one of the top spots of Germany, so you’ll have plenty to explore.
The spa
The Hotel Das Rübezahl promises relaxation thanks to its panoramic bio-sauna with a unique view over the castles. But not only! The Roman parlor sauna, the Kneipp pool, the rock whirlpool and the herbal steam bath will also indulge you into some well-deserved relaxation time. We enjoyed the spa twice during our stay, once at sunset and once at sunrise. The outdoor heated pool, with its view over the castles, was my favorite place. Obviously, the fact that we had it for ourselves made us love it even more!
Our room
Imagine being on your bed and looking at the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles. Sounds dreamy right? Well, that was our room. Our balcony also faced the two castles. Furthermore, the room itself was extremely cozy and comfortable.
The common parts
The Hotel Das Rübezahl has a romantic and cozy feel. It offers various “arrangements”, like this extremely comfortable library and an excellent bar!
Like in all hotels throughout the world, the interior can be beautiful and the surroundings exhilarating, but if the staff does not make you feel welcome as a guest, then it is pointless. The people are the living heart of a hotel as Rübezahls can tell! The team welcomed us in a most lovely fashion from the first minute till the end and made sure that the stay was as pleasant as possible. We loved that the staff was always smiling or ready for a small talk. They also have very good tips for enjoying one’s vacation in the region, and not just Neuschwanstein.
The restaurants
Every morning we enjoyed our breakfast by admiring the castles. The choices available for breakfast are really diversified so every type of diet will find its happiness!
The evenings were crowned by the fantastic four-course menu, which left us in awe! And the restaurant’s beautiful atmosphere only enhanced the bar’s most delicious signature drinks, created especially for the restaurant. Without a doubt, I can say that our two dinners were utter perfection!
Moreover, Gams & Gloria is the other restaurant in the hotel. It’s hard to imagine a more charming Alpine setting! And cherry on the top, the restaurant received its first Michelin Star when we were there!
For your info: the meal can also be had outside the hotel, namely in the hotel’s own hut at a striking 1320m altitude with mountain views. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time for it. It’s just another reason to go back I guess!

Neuschwanstein Castle
The Neuschwanstein Castle is only a 5 minutes’ drive by car. During winter time, even the road to the castle is magical.
Highline 179 in Austria
This bridge, located in Tirol in Austria, is only a 20 minutes’ drive away from the hotel. The way up to the bridge will take you around 20 minutes. The view from there is spectacular even if you’re afraid of heights, so you should consider a visit!
*Please note that we’ve been invited by the hotel ‘Das Rübezahl’ to stay at their hotel.
